Biography
Born in Stoke-on-Trent Daniel has always had a keen interest in music. At the age of 6 he started to learn the piano, transferring to the organ at 16, and began cornet lessons under Mr Andrew Welsh when he started secondary school at 11.
Whilst at secondary school Daniel progressed with his cornet playing resulting in holding the posts of Solo Cornet with the Lions Youth Brass Band and Principal Cornet with the Winterley Methodist Brass Band.
It wasn’t until sixth form that Daniel found his interest in conducting, when he was asked to take over control of his school brass ensemble. During his two years in charge he saw the group grow from a quartet to 16 players and tackled a variety of repertoire from the traditional Christmas ‘Schneewaltzer’ to his own arrangement of ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo?’. Also during this time Daniel had the honour of conducting the world famous Fodens Brass Band in his A Level music composition.
From secondary school Daniel went to study on the BA Music course at Leeds College of Music. Originally studying Trumpet under David Hilton he changed to Conducting in his third year and studied under John Anderson. Also in his third year at LCM he was elected President of the Student’s Union allowing him to apply his knowledge of events management to a new and younger audience, this role also gave him great business experience serving on the board of governors as the student representative.
In 2007 Daniel held the post of Assistant Musical Director with the Amadeus Orchestra for their week of concerts over the summer in Exeter and Wells.
Whilst at LCM he was given the opportunity to conduct the Concert Band, from this he was spotted by the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, WYSO, and asked to conduct their proms concert in Morley in October 2008. Following on from this he was asked to conduct their March 2009 concert in Heckmondwike which was used as his final recital by LCM.
Daniel also enjoys an active life as a musical arranger and musical theatre MD. In November 2008 he was able to combine both of these roles when he was MD and arranger for St Mary’s Youth Theatre’s production of ‘Musical Express’ which was performed at The Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds city centre. Since then he has enjoyed an active role in SMYT and continues to arrange, compose and MD for them when required.
Since 2007 Daniel has been the Managing Director of KW Promotions Ltd which has seen him raise over £20,000 for a host of local and national charities and work with stars such as Hayley Westenra, Sophie Cashell, Geoff Gascoyne, Faryl Smith and Jonathan Ansell.
Daniel's most recent conducting appointment is as MD of the Bunbury Singers, based in Bunbury, Cheshire and as of 1st January 2010 Daniel will be the Director of the newly founded Alsager Arts Festival. He also hosts his own radio show at the internet based station Redshift Radio.
